we heard sportscasters bringing RACE into the game...frankly, I had never thought about the RACE of the head coaches! Same here. I was more happy that it's Chicago, my hometown, and Indianapolis, another Upper Midwest town, playing for the NFL championship.
And really, I was more interested in the exciting FOOTBALL games that were played today than in the race angle.
But I suppose it is an historical footnote worth mentioning at least. I just hope it doesn't dominate the coverage. But it probably will--in spite of the coaches themselves wanting to downplay that angle and keep the focus on FOOTBALL and the players.

hey there's been plenty of TIDERS in the super bowl....starting with Bart Starr...on to Joe Namath....Kenny Stabler....man more in between....and last year, Sean Alexander......etc etc etc....I'll be at the Senior Bowl next week and will see if any of those guys have it in them to make it to the NFL and the Super Bowl....

I thought Dungy did a great job of taking the focus off race and putting it back on track. Same with Lovey Smith.
The fact that Lovey was Dungy's assistant coach should make the Super Bowl really interesting because they each know how the other thinks/plays.

" I am just happy to see the pats lose after their poor sportsmanship at San Deigo."
I am shocked and awed that my Patriots lost tonight, but the nonsense about the Pats being guilty of over celebrating in San Diego last week is indicative of an immature mindset. The Patriots did no such thing, and too bad it is "lights out" on that notion among most thinking persons.
I'll be rooting for the Colts in the Super Bowl despite the fact that the former 2 LT will likely disown me for that.

GO BEARS! And both coaches are great coaches and men, and I don't care about their color. Get over it, MSM.

What a sourpuss/poor sport Bellichek was in the post game interview. Like he doesn't have enough Super Bowl rings already.

It is healthy I believe to have pride in one's own school
Even if it is in Alabama

I'll repeat what I said on the playoff thread:
Tony Dungy and Lovie Smith should issue a joint press release telling the press to shut up already about their ethnicity.

That's my sentiments too. It's worth mentioning. It's another milestone, but not a huge one. And both men want to talk about football, not act as if they're trailblazers who have done some amazing thing despite adversity. Their adversity was real, but it's not the same as 40 years ago. There are quite a few black NFL coaches. Some are good. Some are not so good. These two are good. But for them, it's about the game.

I see a conspiracy where the black players on the Saints and Patriots throw the game to guarantee a black coach wins the Super Bowl. ... Na!

Two black coaches in SB XLI will not satisfy the raceniks. They are wedded to the idolatry of worshiping the black man, or more precisely, the liberal man.

Just wait until they bring up something about a "black president".
And I must be racist, 'cuz this "first" black, and "first" women stuff seems so 1990's.
