I found no new photos of the president today but there are some photos of Laura in Paris, at the conference on Missing and Exploited Children. As Tony Snow's assistant conducted the press briefing today, and the State of the Union address is next Tuesday, January 23rd at 9:00 PM EST, it seems likely it is crunch time for getting the address ready.

Defense Secretary Gates continues his visit to Iraq, in Basra and Talil, where he is being briefed.

Jay Hein, Director of the WH Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives, discussed the President's compassion agenda and the recently launched Compassion in Action Roundtables.

A few notes about the State of the Union address that is coming up next Tuesday, January 23rd, at 9:00 p.m. In his State of the Union address, President Bush will address big issues facing our nation, including the war on terror, energy, immigration and education. The State of the Union is an opportunity for the President to unveil a positive, comprehensive agenda that will improve the daily lives of the American people, and to explain how our actions in the world will make our nation safer and better.

Americans should expect a discussion of the common sense principles that will provide the basis for President Bush's approach to governing with a new Congress -- again, as Tony said yesterday, it is not a laundry list of proposals.

President Bush will outline issues where he believes we can find common ground with the new Congress. Both parties share many of the same goals for the people they serve. We can find practical ways to advance the American Dream and keep our nation safe without either party compromising on its principles.

President Bush will discuss his determination to defeat the terrorists who are part of a broader extremist movement that is now doing everything it can to defeat us in Iraq. If the extremists prevail in Iraq, the American people will be less safe and our enemies will be emboldened and more lethal.

Laura Bush delivers remarks on efforts made in the United States to protect children Wednesday. "Today, federal, state and local law enforcement cooperate to pursue kidnappers across state lines. National registries alert parents about convicted sexual predators living in their neighborhoods. Across the United States, anyone can call a hotline to immediately report a missing child. In 1990, 62 percent of children reported missing to the center were recovered. Today, the number has climbed to 94 percent."

I want to recognize and thank the crew that has brought us "A Day in the Life of President Bush" since its inception in January 2001. If I accidentally omitted a name, will someone let me know? It's quite a cast which has brought the president and his administration before us for these 72 months.
