I dislike clicking on the NYslimes and giving them a hit. What's the purpose of this article, if I may ask?

I bought a three bedroom condo with almost 1500 sq ft for less than those listed in the
New York Times. Those are either smallish or the condo fees are steep and maybe way too many amenities.

That doesn't count the insurance.

What's the purpose of this article, if I may ask?Lorianne is either an architect or an planner who has bought into the idea of new urbanism, "planned" growth, and controlling "sprawl"; all of which is supposed to prevent this sort of excess while restricting your, my, and everyone else's housing choices.
Sometimes, Lorianne finds it necessary to post these sorts of things in order to further the notion that it's necessary to advance the United Nations' Agenda 21.

There, that's more like it.

Interior insurance is extra. Its like renters insurance in that you insure your personal possessions within the walls. If I were married, I'd have gone ahead and bought the home I wanted but I don't have time to take care of the lawn and remove snow where I live so I opted for condo life. I just hate external chores and would rather take care of the inside which is what I can attend to as a homeowner.

The insurance is mandatory for most condos (at least in the Florida section of the emerald coast). As of last year when I was down there looking it was almost as much as the actual housing payments. It wasn't a very good time to buy. Beautiful but not worth it.

Since insurance companies won't insure in Florida... at any price these days.

That's why I left California. FWIW, my condo purchase in Colorado is well below the 225K national median.

For $350,000 I'd sell my Oceanfront building lot on the West Coast of Washington state.
The view is stunning.

You are advised not to speak for me. I can answer my own questions.
