OK, the jews killed Christ. What part of that is anti-Semitic?
First, it's not true as a statement. Certain religious authorities -- who were not very popular because of their collusion with the occupying authorities -- supported by a particular mob, pressured the Roman authorities to crucify Jesus. They did so because He challenged their authority.
Jesus' support was also almost 100% Jewish. In fact, his execution was virtually the only not-wholly-Jewish part of his life.
Finally, theologically, Jesus killed Jesus. He permitted and encouraged everything that happened. In particular, Jesus encouraged civil disobedience against the Roman authorities. Without getting too deeply into it, that's what "walk another mile" "give him your other cheek" and "give him your coat, also" mean.
What is anti-Semitic is:
(1) "the Jews" refers to the Jews in toto as if the Jewish people as a whole took the life of their fellow Jew Jesus of Nazareth.
In reality a tiny fraction of world Jewry extant at the time of the crucifixion was even present in Jerusalem for the event, and only a portion of those individuals were actively involved in calling for the crucifixion.
(2) In the reality most people inhabit, the crucifixion took place almost 2000 years ago when the vast majority of the Jewish people who have ever lived had yet to be born.
(3) The crucifixion was actually carried out by Roman soldiers, not by Jews. And those soldiers were more than happy to do it.
All this is just historical fact.
If someone said: "The Americans murdered John F. Kennedy" you would automatically interpret the utterer of this statement to be anti-American, because JFK was an American himself, because the person who actually killed him (unless you are a conspiracy theorist) wasn't really an American, and the assassination was not the act of the American people acting in concert.
Jesus of nazareth, in a purely historical sense, was crucified at the behest of one faction of the Sanhedrin of Jerusalem and their vocal supporters with the collusion of the Roman procurator of Judaea.
From a theological and Scriptural standpoint, you and I crucified him.
One can also say from the same standpoint that Jesus offered himself up as a sacrifice to the Father and absolved everyone involved in the mechanics of the crucifixion by asking the Father to forgive them.
Saying "The Jews killed Christ" is anti_jewish statement devoid of historical accuracy and Scriptural awareness.
