My roots are in Amherst and Rockbridge Counties, VA. In the early 20th century - Dr. Plecker, State Registrar of Vital Statistics, in his attempt to 'cleanse' the populace of 'mongrels', had all of my black Irish and Monacan indian relatives re-categorized as Mulatto, inhibiting their voting and property rights.

Since nobody has it on their damn agenda to apologize to Mulatto-Americans, my Welsh-Dutch-American self recently deposited (what I consider fair market) reparations to my American-Mulatto self, from/to the same bank account(!) and now I am content and completely at peace with every ounce of blood that courses through my Mongrel-no-more veins. I offer my example as a healing effort to others who may be similarly conflicted.

You are hilarious. Come to think of it, I really doubt there is more than a handful of any ethnic group that can claim racial purity. Maybe only the recently arrived immigrants from Africa, and even that is suspect. We are all mongrels here in America. I would bet my bottom dollar I have black blood in me somewhere. My great-great-great-grandmother was named Jane Stone, a half-breed Indian women. Should I demand minority status and get my stipend from the Indian reservation people? Should anyone here on free republic think I'm a coward because I can trace an ancestor of French origin. What about my ancestry I can trace back to William Clark Quantrill? Should I apologize to the people of Lawrence, KS?? This is too pathetic to be funny.
