I heard a Public Radio piece on that. At first the Kazakhstanis who know about it were appalled. But after they realized it had nothing to do with them they thought it was pretty funny.
but it would probably be wise for Sasha not to accept the invitation to visit Kazakhstan.

The sad thing is that there an actual ethnic group denigrated by Borat movie - Romanian Gypsies. They do not have influence or powerful friends so they are the perfect target.
Gypsies are ignored even when they become victims of Albanian pogroms in Kosovo.
