For Mr. Cohen, if such people exist, they are necessarily antiSemitic because they think that the Jews and anyone else who survives the Tribulation will become Christian. That is very threatening to such a person as Cohen.
Jak sie masz? Dzienkuje.
Mushroom stamp of approval for this movie.
I rate it 3 and half gypsies.
Please do not think that.
He's about as representative of Jews as Jimmy Carter is of Baptists or Jon Carey of Roman Catholics.
And just how is this bigotry? Who in the world values the life of an unknown Hungarian the same as that of, say his sister?
His reference to Free Republic is pretty dishonest. FR is a hotbed of pro-Israel sentiment. He chose to mostly ignore that, or give it short shrift.
Cohen's humor is always at someone else's expense. He finds someone who is too dim to realize he's being made fun of, or too nice to tell Cohen to take a hike, and he makes fun of them. I've seen several of his routines, in which the other person is trying mightily to be nice despite Cohen's boorishness.
Cohen, and Leyden, seem to think Cohen is exposing our prejudices. I see him projecting his prejudices onto others. It doesn't take a lot of courage to make fun of people who are trying to make you welcome.
Cohen is like Walter Matthau or Tim Conway in a lot of ways. He does not even have to open his mouth to make you scream in laughter. The look on his face is more than enough.
Recently this writer posted a story on one of America's finest and most respected Conservative Internet forums - FreeRepublic. Thousands of fine minds, caring Christian and Jewish souls who support democracy, free speech and Israel debate there on a daily basis. But one remark which was recently posted openly to me stands out in my mind: "I value the lives of American servicemen much more than innocent Israelis who die from terrorism."
I saw the movie. I laughed and was also repulsed at certain points.
There's nothing new under the sun and this movie was far from genius.
It's just the latest take on poop jokes, making fun of ethnicities and cultures and pushing the envelope.
I don't think it's substantial enough to even review.
It's like having an intellectual discussion about "Jackass".
He's probably more representative of Hollywood's attitude toward heartland Americans.
I'm sure you're right, but it would probably be wise for Sasha not to accept the invitation to visit Kazakhstan.
Israeli blood and values in the global war against Islamic terrorism is no different than American blood! To state that another person's life is worth more, as we fight side by side - is racist and highly counterproductive as an effective fighting unit. The enemy would love to play divide and conquer. Don't let it happen.
The thread the author (Israli Beach, I presume) references is here:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/1763651/posts?page=79
The author left out the rebuttal by the poster, which is basically, "I am American first" --- perhaps an outdated isolationist idea, but hardly racist.
It's not racist, it's isolationist at worst.
There is a distiction.
That said, I agree that such isolationism is stupid and the entire spat an unproductive argument.
but it would probably be wise for Sasha not to accept the invitation to visit Kazakhstan.
Joel:
I've read the original thread. In that thread you posted:
"No more Israeli civilian blood spilled for US security interests in Iraq."
And got the response you dislike.
Well, here you state:
"To state that another person's life is worth more, as we fight side by side - is racist and highly counterproductive as an effective fighting unit."
Sounds to me that you need to look at your first comment, in light of your second.
And while I'm picking on you, what do you mean "US security interests in Iraq"?!!@
Last time I checked, Saddam was paying the Paleostinians $25K a pop to blow themselves up in pizza parlors, no?
And he was, according to the NYT, about a year away from a nuke when the US invaded.
Not to mention other WMD that the IDF is on record is stating was moved to Syria only shortly before the other invasion?
Do you REALLY believe Israeli civilians are dying for US interest in Iraq? Talk about ungrateful!
Lots more Israeli citizens would have died, but for the US invasion, and you know it.
Oh, I don't.
But just as aggressive feminists tend to generate the very hostility towards women they deplore, people like Sasha inevitably generate some hostility towards Jews.
I think it is because too many Jews also happen to be yankees.
Damn shame.
The sad thing is that there an actual ethnic group denigrated by Borat movie - Romanian Gypsies. They do not have influence or powerful friends so they are the perfect target.
Gypsies are ignored even when they become victims of Albanian pogroms in Kosovo.
Iraq does not count? Have you forgotten how Saddam Hussein was giving money to the families of suicide bombers?
