Even though I am a Christian I do not consider the area mentioned as Holy or as anything special except as maybe a tourist attraction to view old stuff.

Yes the Muslims are great practitioners of the fine art of vandalism and destruction of 'infidel' memorials, statues, and archeological sites for political purposes.
Remember how the Taliban destroyed the huge cliff statues of Buddha in the Bamiyan valley of Afghanistan.
