Basiclly in cases like this "fear" comes first. Perp tells the young child I will kill you and/or your family if you try to escape or the perp actually brings the child close to death.

Then comes "shame" - Perp tells the child no one will want you after what I have done to you, no one will understand and they will blame you. In this case he probably told Shawn he (Shawn) was a "fag" now. The perp will tell the boy he is no different than him (the perp) now.
