StarKis(t)ing Nancy Pelosi [[Kathryn Jean Lopez.....]

StarKis(t)ing Nancy Pelosi [Kathryn Jean Lopez]

There are some real stars in the 110th minority. Among them, Eric Cantor and Patrick McHenry. They called out some Nancy Pelosi fishy business earlier this week. Here’s the story, as relayed by the Fox and Friends gang:

STEVE DOOCEY: We teased you with this a moment ago. On Wednesday the U.S. House passed a bill that says the minimum wage in this country will rise over time from $5.15 an hour to $7.25. Now, here's the thing. Included in the small print is the fact that the minimum wage will now include the islands of the northern marinas but it exempts American Samoa which is the only U.S. Territory not subject to minimum wage laws.

BRIAN KILMEADE: What's the big deal about that?

DOOCEY: It covers all islands except American Samoa. Why American Samoa?

GRETCHEN CARLSON: It just so happens Steve that Star Kist tuna ploys 75% of the island's work force. They are making a lot of tuna there. Apparently then that is shipped off to San Francisco in a district where Nancy Pelosi is from. And now her people are saying that, you know, she has never been influenced by Star Kist at all but other people are saying, hey, this is a little bit of hypocrisy because how can this particular group of people benefit by not having to pay the new minimum wage which is almost $2 more an hour before.

"So the high school kids across the country get a big raise so they can afford to party more on weekends"

No, high-school-age unemployment always goes up initially when the minimum wage is raised. When employers have to pay more anyway, they would prefer to deal with single women high-school graduates, who are more flexible with what hours they can work than high-school students, so they quit hiering as many high school students.

Minimum wage laws always hurt the lowest eligible people entering "minimum wage" jobs. Just like "union wages" under union contracts protect the higher wage of the union worker, they also prevent or make more difficult, the hiring of workers willing and financially able to work for less.

Minimum wage laws and union contracts shield incumbant workers from labor-market forces at the expense of the unemployed and the under-employed.©wuli 2007

"If the canneries left American Samoa en masse, the impact would be devastating, leaving Samoans wards of the federal welfare state..."

Funny, but that same argument can be applied in the rest of the country: raise the minimum wage more than $2, and increased unemployment will follow. Why does that logic hold in Samoa, but not in California?

OK......Pay all of Congress minimum wage, including the increase.............except for those in San Fransisco. They don't get the increase. Pay them the minimum wage, instead of their bloated salaries until they get this countries finances back in order, as well as taking care of the immigration problems.

For another blatant Dem example of hypocrisy, go to NYPost on line and see the description of Two Americas John Edwards' multiple buildings on his 100 acre spread in Chapel Hill, NC. (You will not believe what your read, but it's true 'cause I read it in the papers. LOL)

ATTENTION: Verrrrry scary photo of Herself on front page of the Post on line. Just warning you.

Doesn't this bill need to go through the Senate before the President signs it? If so, it can be corrected easily in the Senate. If not, then Madame Speaker Pelosi should resign.

You hit that one on the head. Major need for testosterone in the leadership of the GOP. There's a severe hormone imbalance in the Congress.

I had a second job in a fabric store working for minimum wage the last time it was raised, in 1997 I think? What happened was, rather than get rid of anybody, they cut back from having 4 employees per Saturday shift (the busiest one, which I worked) to 3. So while I did get a dollar or so more in my check, my workload increased by a third. Not worth it.

Hours were cut during the week too, so the women who had been getting by on 20 hours a week then had to get a second minimum wage job to make up their lost hours. They ended up working more hours at two, or even three, jobs.

Thank God that the NFL channel doesn't show any of those feminazi ads. But with football season over we are SOL!

I'd rather they include an amendment which exempts any state which includes employers that are based in any representative's home district. "Just to be fair", they should say, if one employer gets the treatment, all should get the same treatment.

That of course would exempt the entire 50 states, and it would also be the RIGHT thing to do, whereas arguing that American Samoa should be subject to the minimum wage is the WRONG thing to do.

Why is American Samoa exempted from wage hike?

The appropriate question for conservatives is, why aren't ALL states with employees exempted from the wage hike?

This is just the beginning of many Foe pas that Empress Nancy is going to commit.......

The problem she's up against is that she can't just issue edicts like she did as the MINORITY leader......she's accountable for everything that even appears fishy...excuse the pun........IT Sucks to be IN CHARGE....

But most importantly she has to deal with the ego's of her party which have provided her with too many Chief's and not enough Indians whose urge for self preservation will prevent them from following her like lemmings off the cliff.

I predict that Her royal Highness Nancy will not last beyond this year once Nancy has succeeded in treading where the likes of Rangel, Conyers, etal have not permitted her leave to dictate beyond THEIR expert authority. Her highnesses reign will be short lived and she will be quickly replaced by Steny Hoyer as leader once the Dems have anointed Hillary Clinton officially as there "New Token Woman" in charge.

So? As long as you pay taxes to support the democrat base, why would politicians care about you?
Quit your whining and get back to work, you slacker. Democrats want more free stuff.

(Don't vote (D/L). Don't vote (R/L). Vote Conservative.)

She did get away with it in the House...but it still has to go to conference...and pass the VETO pen of Pres. Bush.

I saw a couple of Reps...Steve King of Iowa, and Scott Garrett of New Jersey on C-span last night...they spent an hour talking about this...

They were ripping Pelosi like crazy....and making fun of her at the same time...quite entertaining actually.

The blogosphere can now look-up the election campaign donations of Star Kist executives

I can't find Del Monte (owner of StarKist) itself, although they may be buried under a PAC somewhere. Her husband has $17 million in Del Monte shares though.
