Thanks, TL! That's almost exactly how I make spaghetti sauce when I'm throwing it together! I toss in more basil than Tom - probably 2-3 tbsps, more garlic (4-5 cloves) and also toss in about 1 tbsp of sugar - that amount doesn't make it sweet but does add some complexity. And some red pepper to add some heat. Hmmm.... getting hungry now!
Okay, I'll bite. Cite your sources for this allegation.

True.
I do believe "stew" is a reference to letting the ingredients simmer for four hours while adding water and stirring. The garbled instruction may lend credence to the claim that this recipe is a homey touch used by fund-raising politicos - but I recall Mr. Tancredo harping on how Americans are deprived of REAL Italian cuisine like his grandmother used to serve up. I don't believe he'd allow falsity to pass for truth on such an important issue.
Spaghetti sauce is an issue up there with abortion and nuclear proliferation in the hearts of Americans of Italian descent.

Don't expect a reply from a notorious FROBL. When they can't back up their smears they either pile it higher with the help of their high-fiving Peanut Gallery or just run away.
But hey; are you planning another trip soon? Your last tour enlightened so many who weren't aware of how bad the invasion problem has grown. Magnificent work!
