Initially, many at Duke supported the dancer. Students held candlelight vigils on campus and 88 professors, now known as the “Group of 88” signed an advertisement in the student newspaper calling for the administration to take a stronger stand against the players.

"Now known as Group 88" - how ironic, as "88" usually a code word for a Nazi salute... Anyways, how persecuting w/o any proof of guilt and blatant disregard for presumption of innocence can improve anything, let alone black-white relations?

Quite contrary to that, Nifong's misconduct and a mob enthusiasm to persecute white guys no matter what soured race relations a lot.

That is my view. This is a great step that a racist who would resign such a committee because of the race of the students readmitted is off such a committee. Getting racists, who you know would not be resigning if the readmitted students were black, off of a committee to see how to improve racial relations at Duke is a necessary step toward actually being able to improve race relations at Duke.

I think the idea is that you put particularly loud mouthed Black racists on the race relations committee who can scream loudly that problems any African-American may have are caused by racism and that this is a rotten society and America is the most racist, intolerant country ever to exist. Each White person owes each Black person about $6 Million Dollars due to all this injustice. Then you get some guilt ridden White liberals to agree. Then -- Viola!!--race relations are all better.

That's why, in the long run, it is much better to send innocent white kids to prison than it is to not believe a lying whore who happens to be Black. It helps race relations that way, don't you see?
