ALL of our enemies, in every war, thought we were pushovers. Santa Anna promised to be in Washington D.C. in a few weeks after he took over as dictator; the British were supremely confident they would beat us in 1812. There was HUGE opposition to the War of 1812, Mexican War, and Sp-Am War, too.
