I'm fouled up! I live one mile northeast of Nalco, about 3 blocks north of Sugar Mill elementary. If I lived Northwest of Nlaco, I'd be in jail or the middle of the Airport!

My kids went to Sugar Mill Elementary, Sugar Land Middle School and Kempner High School.

My wife tried to go home for lunch from Hwy 6 and 59 but couldn't get through.

They say all clear was given around 3.

Wonder what caused it in the first place?

Follow-up: A Nalco tank car was being processed to unload some ethylene diamine at the plant (or vice versa) and the valve came loose, allowing the contents to mix with water and spew into the air as vapor (what looked like the huge billowing clouds of smoke for miles around).

Tank holds 40,000 lbs of the chemical or 4,000 gallons. Unknown how much was vaporized into the environment, but it is not deadly or toxic, just an irritant to mucus membranes if one is in close proximity to it.

Three employees were sent to the hospital, with minor injuries. Also, 14 other employees were treated on-scene by Nalco and Ft Bend EMS.

They said 7 people have gone to the ER from the incident, but I couldn't tell if that is in addition to these employees listed. (Public or nearby residents, IOW.)

There is a triage center at SL FD Station #1 on Hwy. 90. Part of the road is still closed there, because of that. Anyone who is experiencing any problems from the release should report there.

Hope I covered all I heard from the presser.

Additionally to my above post:

That Sugar Land fire station #1 is at 255 Guenther Way.

Anyone having respiratory problems should go straight to the nearest ER, they are saying now. There is still triage at that fire station, too.
