Another poster just mentioned the existence of 'escort' passes. Seriously we did not know of them.

She had a cell phone given to her by her son. She had all the numbers to call and was told to call if there were any problems. But they took her phone away from her. But at least they called me and we were able to get her released. But we just didn't think there would be a problem is the bottomline.

When we have passed through customs before we have never had a problem, so we didn't expect one for grandmother. She really is a sweet little old lady. How anyone could think she was harmful is beyond reason.

I've heard of grannies getting pulled out of line and 'wanded' and so on. I too have been scanned and asked about my laptop.

But this was different. She's a foreigner, she doesn't speak the language. We are civilized people and we should do more to welcome people to our great country. The least we could do is put in speaker phones with speed dials to 24/7 interpreters, the same that you see in hospital ERs.

But now thanks to a poster here I am aware of escort passes and believe you me I will be looking into those passes on the next go-round.

65. She is a little hunched over now and has alot of grey hair covering what used to be blond. She has fair skin and a very kind face. She looks as far as one can imagine from anything evil or suspicious.

As I am sure you read my 1st post I said how sorry I was for your mother in law. Which I am. I give her credit for coming her without knowing English and even flying..... I don't know how my grandmother came to America without knowing a word of English , went through Ellis Island and made it to Sugar loaf PA. I don't think I could have done it ....... But to respond to you post.....She looks as far as one can imagine from anything evil or suspicious........I am sure she doesn't look like a terrorist. Can you tell me what one looks like??? I have never seen one. I am not being rude , I just want to point out to you that they come in all shapes and sizes, from all countries and all ages..... I am mad as hell this happened to your mother in law. I think to make her strip to her undies was terrible...... BUT we can't have it both ways. We have to screen everyone and ask questions for our country to be safe. Maybe they need to have a little more training at the airports........ I would write, call and complain to everyone I could think of. She was treated rudely. Thats for sure....... AND to think they just put airport workers through courses on how to deal with Muslims who are flying to Mecca.... I hope grandma is having a blast with the baby.~~Pandora~~

Customs Officials are exceptionaly powerful. The only real limits to their authority seems to be the fear of politically powerful interest groups such as the Muslims and Hispanics posess. I feel terrible about what occured and hope the karma catches up with SOB's who did this. Lok to the happinees about your child and let it go.

When you think about it, would their actions be so different if they had, in fact, been infiltrated and taken over by foreign powers who's interest and goals are quite different then that of the American citizens?

Thanks.... I meant I never saw one in person. But you did leave out pictures of the grandmother who recently was a suicide bomber in the name of Allah, and pictures of the children soldiers of Afghanistan and other Muslim countries. And the countless martyrs that blow themselves up etc. Terrorists come from many different countries, come in all ages and sizes. We can't say we want security then complain when we get it. I am very sorry for this grandmother and I feel she was treated rudely. I would be writing and calling my senator and congressman tomorrow.

Seriously, Hostage is the only one on this thread who has the "right" to be peeved (if anyone at all does), yet there's been an astonishing amount of knee-jerkism here.

I'm no Pollyanna - I recognize that TSA has a tough job to do. That said, the agents at the Port of Seattle have a reputation for being "World Class A$$holes". They don't do themselves any favors.

I don't like to think little old ladies will be treated rudely ... Treating people rudely doesn't make America look good and enough of the world hates us as it is.... But we don't know who is a terrorist plain and simple. She shouldn't have been stripped to her undies , they could have put the wand over her. Its a good thing she didn't have a heart attack or something..... What does have me angry is that recently I read on FR of the airlines making employees take courses in dealing with the Muslims who might be praying since so many were going to be flying to Mecca.....
