(Champlain, N.Y.) AP -- A fully loaded automatic AK74 assault rifle and 417 rounds of ammunition were seized at the Champlain border crossing in northeastern New York.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials say officers stopped Adam Predin, 31, a Serbian-born U.S. citizen from Phoenix, as he applied for admission into the United States on Tuesday.
Predin told officers he was returning after being refused entry into Canada. He claimed the purpose of his travel to Canada was to play golf in the Quebec area.
While checking his vehicle, officers say they discovered the assault rifle between the front passenger and rear seat, concealed under clothing.
The assault rifle and ammunition were turned over to New York State Police, who arrested Predin on charges of possession of a loaded firearm in a motor vehicle.
*snrk*
I could probably get into playing golf that way, though putting might be difficult.
The AK is still useful in the short game.
the Phoenix connection again.
Okay, okay, I have been listening to Glenn Beck.
LOL!
Border control?? Who needs that, right??
Doubt this will show up in any major news.
He was refused by Canada and caught by our guys. It appears that someone was doing their job.
Born in Serbia, but is he an "ethnic Albanian" of the Muzzie persuasion or just another southern Slav associate of the Russian Mafia?
Full auto AK-74 and they arrest him for "firearm in a motor vehicle". What about the whole host of federal laws he was breaking. Not that they are "good laws", but if the rest of have to obey them, on penalty of hard time, they should at least apply them against a dude like this.
Which is why it needs to be well-known and used as an example to people of WHY we can't ignore our borders.
But the national media won't touch it.
I have a few old books from the 50s about woodchuck hunting in the New York-Ontario area. It seems that hunters went back and forth with their rifles without any problems back in the good old days. I guess that can never happen again though.
I wonder why the candians did not arrest him? They are known to be very hard on someone carrying weapons into their country.
I am from way down South in Louisiana, so I don't know a lot about Quebec. I must ask a question. Do people really go to Quebec in January to play golf?
They do this year.
I'm about 5 hours south, and it is supposed to be above 60 here today. There is no snow on the ground. We were planning a snowmobile trip to Quebec last week, but there is no snow there either. People will be playing golf in NH today.
Gotta watch those AK 74's though.LOL
Actually, it looks like the only mistake he made was carrying it loaded in the vehicle.
Down here in the graet state of TEXAS traveling with a loaded firearm is expected and encouraged.
