Traditionally, Jews in the US have voted 2:1 for the Dems. In 2006 they voted 9:1 for the Dems. That's a huge gain for the Dems, it's not something that Forman predicted, and it's entirely explainable by the almost complete lack of competitive races in areas where Jews live.
In 2008, Jews will again vote Democrat (unless the Dems nominate Sharpton or Kucinich or some other nut), but the percentage will go back down. This is a temporary increase and a logical one -- incumbents who aren't challenged do better than incumbents are are challenged.
But the question is not what but why? Why this overwhelming anti-conservative Jewish vote?
When you have endless excoriating of the President from the right that he had no business funding education, it's not the government's job.
When you have Larry Kudlow, a former jew, snidely remarking that about all that money Bush wasted on education........when you have endless bashing from the right wing talk show hosts about the waste of money on education.....
Of course, their chldren are in private schools so the education of the poorest is of no concern.
It's a cultural thing, IMO.
The President didn't get vouchers but he got a lot out of the NEA who fought and screamed against the NCLB program.
Just one thing I hear from other jewish families.....for what it's worth.
