Of course, I'm about to generalize, (because my husband wears the pants in my family) but maybe some women feel the need to be in control at home because of the "baby boy" syndrome. Some black men have been babied from the time they were young by mothers, grandmothers, aunts, sisters (with no influence by a positive male). They experience a learned helplessness where very little is require of them. The mothers teach the young women to be independent and take care of business and the home. The boy is taught to be catered to. The female takes up the slack of the missing parent, making sure the home is run smoothly and having to feel in control. Maybe this is why the marriage rate is so low in the black community. For the last 30 or 40 years we have not been stressing the need for the nuclear family. The state has taken up the space of the missing husband. It is a shame really.
Well stated. As a friend of mine once said,"Black mothers RAISE their daughters and LOVE their sons"
