"Watergate II"

Indeed.... I would not credit without proof (which will not be forthcoming, of course!!) the "sensitive document left in a room of an unnamed hotel in an unspecified place" at all..... this could well be the sign of 'Rat dirty tricks as usual. The doc may well have been stolen, it must be presumed stolen unless there is any actual confirmation from the Giuliani camp that they carelessly lost such a doc. Even if someone in Giuliani's camp did leave such a document in a hotel room, the scumbag who turned it over to the NY Daily News is obviously a Chris Lehane/Paul Begala type of excrement.

Perhaps it's an attempt at disinformation. IE, some authentic stuff, but also some fake stuff that was purposely put out there to throw people off the real informtaion.

If they left the plans in the room while they still had the room rented and planned to return it, then this is a little like blaming the Watergate breakin on the careless Democrat staffers who left their records in their office and went home.

I tried to tell him that the Sandy Berger Inn didn't sound like a reputable bed and breakfast.

As insightful and probably as accurate as a spoiler for Sopranos, season six, part two. C'mon - you can guess an ex wife will take a run at him, and you probably know who the war chest donations will be from. Move along, folks, nothing here...

Report: Giuliani Targets $100 Million in 2007

The presidential campaign strategy for former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani includes a $100 million fundraising target for this year.

The 140-page schedule for the Republican's budding presidential bid was reported in Tuesday's editions of the New York Daily News.

The paper said an anonymous source obtained the document after it was left behind on a campaign trip in 2006, though Giuliani spokeswoman Sunny Mindel told the paper the "suspicious activity" was a dirty campaign trick.

The schedule includes a plan to raise at least $100 million in 2007 by reeling in big Republican donors like Fred Smith, the CEO of FedEx, the paper reported. Smith is already supporting Senator John McCain's bid.

The document also predicts some $100 million could be spent against Giuliani to highlight political vulnerabilities like his three marriages and moderate stances on social issues, including gun control and gay rights.

And a bunch of fake conservatives want this guy to be elected as President!? Will he leave national secrets lying around? The "football"? Given his womanizing history, I wonder who he was in the hotel room with that distracted him enough to leave his sensitive documents behind.

I'm amused. This will give everyone a chance to see how he shines under pressure.

I also wouldn't be surprised if a Chris Lehane-type 'doctored' them a bit, too.

Save your blood pressure, we need it. ;-)

He will face much worse situations in dealing with the WOT if elected...

'Daily News' Gets Rudy's Prez Plans Left Behind in Hotel

By E&P Staff

Published: January 02, 2007 11:45 AM ET

NEW YORK We've all left something behind in a hotel room at least once -- a toothbrush, or slipper, or maybe even a set of keys. But now a GOP presidential hopeful, and former New York City mayor, tops just about everyone.

Left behind in a hotel room recently by Rudy Giuliani or one of his aides were 140 pages of printed text, handwriting and spreadsheets, now leaked to New York's Daily News by the campaign of a GOP rival. The tabloid in a front-page special today describes it as the "top-secret plan for Rudy Giuliani's bid for the White House."

Patrick Healy, writing in The New York Times this afternoon, comments, "The public disclosure of the document, which was leaked by a Giuliani adversary to The Daily News, is potentially damaging for Mr. Giuliani, given that he has portrayed himself as a leader on security issues and strategic planning.

"Indeed, for better or worse, he gained a reputation as mayor for tightly controlling and shaping public information; such a security breach in any presidential operation, but especially his, stands as an unusual embarrassment, as well as a boon to his potential opponents who want to know his thinking."

The Daily News report reveals that this "detailed dossier sets out the budgets, schedules and fund-raising plans that will underpin the former New York mayor's presidential campaign - as well as his aides' worries that personal and political baggage could scuttle his run.

"At the center of his efforts: a massive fund-raising push to bring in at least $100 million this year, with a scramble for at least $25 million in the next three months alone.

"The loss of the battle plan is a remarkable breach in the high-stakes game of presidential politics and a potentially disastrous blunder for Giuliani in the early stages of his campaign.

"The document was obtained by the Daily News from a source sympathetic to one of Giuliani's rivals for the White House. The source said it was left behind in one of the cities Giuliani visited as he campaigned for dozens of Republican candidates in the weeks leading up to the November 2006 elections.

"Giuliani spokeswoman Sunny Mindel suggested there were political dirty tricks behind the loss of the documents and called the timing suspicious."

"One page in the battle plan reveals aides' concerns that "insurmountable" factors could scuttle Giuliani's run,..."

Including colossal stupidity?

When Steitz told me the story, I immediately thought of a minor sensation in Washington political circles in June 2002, when a Democratic Senate aide found a CD-ROM lying on the ground in Lafayette Park, just across Pennsylvania Avenue from the White House. The aide had no idea what was on the unmarked disk, but soon found that it was the full text of two PowerPoint presentations. One was a slide show to accompany a speech by Rove, and the other was meant to accompany a presentation by Rove's top aide, Ken Mehlman, who at the time was White House political director and who would later become the manager of the president's reelection campaign.
