WASHINGTON Gerald R. Ford leaves his beloved U.S. Capitol for the last time Tuesday as the period set aside for ordinary Americans to say goodbye gives way to an elaborate invitation-only funeral at the awe-inspiring Washington National Cathedral.
As the first order of business Tuesday, Ford's remains were being removed from the Rotunda to lie in repose briefly outside the Senate before leaving the Capitol where Ford served as a congressman for 25 years. As vice president, Ford also had the constitutional title of president of the Senate.

My money is on Hill's POP beads being the real deal and I'm talking pearls - not paste.
Wouldn't surprise me if slick bought them for her, too.

I'm with you. That crossed my mind when I heard the P.O. would be closed today. Guess with Christmas and New Year both on a Monday the guberment workers missed out on a "real" three day weekend. You know how they get the holiday off and then the Monday off too.

I notice the pall-bearers amazing coordination in walking up those steps. The first two steps were braoder and therefore required two step rather than one. Each took two steps while the higher steps required just one. Completely coordinated. They must have practiced. Nicely done.

They were big plastic toy beads a lot of us had as children, back when plastic was first invented. ;-D Each bead had a hole in one side and a post in the other, so they could be locked together and pulled apart.

And another thing that bothers me. Up until the day this man passed away, I really respected him. Then the day after..was it a whole day?....I hear how he tape recorded an interview trashing the current PResident and that it was to be released AFTER HIS DEATH. WHY? WHy after? Was he afraid of looking President Bush in the face? Was he ashamed of what he said? Was he feeling guilty?
It's a shame he did that....granted the interview behind everyones back...making sure it was hid from public like that because I went from 100% respect of him to about 25%.
