WASHINGTON Gerald R. Ford leaves his beloved U.S. Capitol for the last time Tuesday as the period set aside for ordinary Americans to say goodbye gives way to an elaborate invitation-only funeral at the awe-inspiring Washington National Cathedral.
As the first order of business Tuesday, Ford's remains were being removed from the Rotunda to lie in repose briefly outside the Senate before leaving the Capitol where Ford served as a congressman for 25 years. As vice president, Ford also had the constitutional title of president of the Senate.

Shots of Clinton follwed by Dad Bush inadvertently reveals the difference in appearance of men who are a generation apart...Clinton looks to be OLDER than Dad Bush.
I never knew his life story and tumultuous start, and I'm so touched by Gerald R. Ford's mother and childhood and the work ethic, integrity, character of the man.
He didn't have the most auspicious beginnings as Leslie King ... in fact, his life reads like a dramatic and Midwestern depression-era novel.. and ends up being a heartwarming and poignant all-American journey to unexpected greatness, by a most decent man.
Her two youngest, clinging to her though grown. Really touches the heart and the older two trying to stay out of the way. SOB!!!!!
I won't be able to type if the Battle Hymn of the Republic is played.
Ditto for Onward Christain Soldiers.
Immediately after viewing President Ford's casket, President Bush and Laura went to Blair House and visited w/Betty Ford.
Ford family seems very supportive. Do any of them have political desires?
Need to add an antenna!
Stand by....
General Pace is in this procession.
Oh my!
Cheney looks on the verge of tears.
Oops I meant President Ford
They may be physically supporting her. :-\
It is also important to have DC as calm and quiet as possible today. So if postal workers in Dubuque get to stay home, it may be because State Dept and Congressional employees, etc in DC would just complicate the works.
OR it may just be a simple honor to an ex-Federal Employee, albeit one from the top of the pay scale.
Vice President Cheney, former Senator DOle, honorary pall-bearers.
My bets:
Billy Bob will get a big funeral, and many people will show up.
They will be the (few) fanatics that absolutely adored the scumbag. They are so fanatical that they will buy tickets and take time off from Alaska just to prove how great HillBillary was. People did for Reagan but the % for Klintoon will be bigger, because these people have screwed-up priorities (these are the people who are professional protestors, after all).
If his relatively few followers weren't so wacky, his turnout wouldn't be as big as Reagan's - who was really liked by most people, even if grudgingly.
Let's never forget that Billy Boy never won a real majority, and that the Reform Party largely sucked from the trough of the GOP. And he turned off alot of people.
But those few who did vote for him were nutso.
I don't know. I think, he's the Bishop of Washington, D.C. I didn't catch his name.
James Baker and Alan Greenspan also in the procession, as honorary pall-bearers.
