WASHINGTON Gerald R. Ford leaves his beloved U.S. Capitol for the last time Tuesday as the period set aside for ordinary Americans to say goodbye gives way to an elaborate invitation-only funeral at the awe-inspiring Washington National Cathedral.
As the first order of business Tuesday, Ford's remains were being removed from the Rotunda to lie in repose briefly outside the Senate before leaving the Capitol where Ford served as a congressman for 25 years. As vice president, Ford also had the constitutional title of president of the Senate.

Did I see this right: The Clintons are sitting behind Carter??
To: Miss Marple
Poor Lynne Cheney, stuck sitting next to Jimmah....she is doing her best NOT to talk to him...but he is just talking away with everyone...what a jerk.

Amazing how weak Katie Couric on CBS is.
Bob Sheafer and other's are carrying their coverage.
Katie is obviously reading from a prepared script because the insert pictures are perfectly synced with her prattle.
The "real" news guys can carry the show on their own.
Katie was on the Pom Pom squad when Ford was in office?

Lynne Cheney doesn't look at that enthused to be next to Jimmy.
Not that I blame her :)

Looks to me like Condi is politely listening to Mr. Know-it-all.

Such rare and true gravitas.

Well if he ran he would have my vote, but he has devoted most of his life to our service and knows better then most what a toll the Presidency takes on a man.
I don't blame him for wanting to fish and spend time with Lynne and the kids and grandkids. He's a good man.

I hope the Dramamine or other anti-nausea medicine kicks in for Lynne Cheney considering who she's sitting next to.
To: Miss Marple
I know what you mean about being sorry your first vote was for Carter. I told DH, as we watch this, that I was mad at Carter because he stole my voting cherry! (This explains why DH and I do not watch movies together...too many wisecracks from me!)

Good morning, Miss Marple. I don't know the name of that musical piece, and it seems Brit didn't either, but it sure was beautiful.
The Marine band is there, you just know we'll hear the Battle Hymn of the Republic and we can all CRY together.

Yes, and Rosalynn Carter and Nancy Reagan have been chatting amicably, sitting next to each other. I'd like to see us get back to that sort of decent behavior, rather than letting political rivalries affect manners.
To: STARWISE
Nancy! Now I am in tears.
To: Mo1
I notice that Chelsea and her mother were chatting away, while Condi sits stoicly silent.

I hope that music is playing havoc with some of the "dignitaries" brain cells. I don't have to mention any names, do I?

I don't listen to the commentators. CSPAN has uninterrupted coverage.
Nancy Regan looks wonderful, God Bless her..

I don't either, but I feel like a thwarted five year old. I want Cheney for president and there is nothing I can do about it. (So sometimes I just express my hopeless wish)
