Many years ago, late one night, I heard Dick Cheney give a speech on C-Span. I fell in love with him then and there. He spoke completely off the cuff and was absolutely sensational. I remember when President Bush chose him to be his running mate my Mom said "you're one happy person aren't you?" He's my absolute favorite!

However, being as how he is Jewish, I don't find that unusual

Duh! ... That would make sense

Thanks for pointing that out .. my brain wasn't thinking :0)

You know, a President Richard B. Cheney would only be 67 on the day of his inauguration in 2009. That's not too old.

In addition to Vice President, Cheney has served as White House Chief of Staff, member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Wyoming, and Secretary of Defense during the Gulf War. There is simply no American more qualified to be the 44th President of the United States.

Vice President Cheney should run. He should definitely run in 2008.

I agree but I fear what the MSM would do to him. They've come to despise him as much as the President, maybe more.

I think you're right... but I don't watch soap operas, so I can't "opine."

Not gonna happen. Even if he wanted to (which he doesn't) the media has convinced everyone that he is at death's door.

I wish him a long and happy retirement in Wyoming with Lynn and his daughters and grandchildren.

I live near St. Benedict Abbey in Still River, MA. There's an old joke about three Catholic orders: What are the Jesuits up to? How many Franciscan monasteries are there? And what do the Benedictines do? (At all! Well, they live by St. Benedict's Rule.) They say/sing the daily Offices of the Liturgy in Gregorian/Latin plain chant, and the public is invited to chapel. They do this as their gift to God, to make it a little piece of Heaven on earth -- and they've succeeded.

Their setting is amazing, a wonderful old Federal mansion with a cloister, barns and outbuildings, great view over the river valley, bucolic. But they could be in a slum and you'd have the same feeling of blessed peace. They live by the rule of poverty, manual labor, and Church Liturgy done in plain chant. But people fall in love with them and the chapel and give them things. Oriental rugs, silver, relics, Mack trucks, to name a few.

They used to have dairy cows, (during one of their annual Christmas dinners with hundreds of people invited, the septic system clogged and monks were out in the driving rain and dark digging a series of trenchs in the leaching field, so one of the elderly monks threw up a window, poked his head out and yelled, "What a time to bury a dead cow!" They had horses, too, even pigs and peacocks. I remember driving by years ago...seeing peacocks on the roof of the Chapter House and thinking I was 'seeing' things. They changed my life, gave me back the spirit of Christmas...a gift totally unexpected. The gift of simplicity, the gift of faith. I wish that for everyone here at FR in the New Year.

No problem.

It's good when we music teachers can contribute to this political forum. :)

What a day to start the NEW YEAR. PROUD to be an American.

I second that!

Today brought back a lot of memories. My former boss who was also an Air Force officer was an advance agent for President Nixon and went to China and Russia with him -- in fact, pinned on his eagle's in Russia. He brought back pens from AF One with the Nixon signature on them -- still have mine. He stayed on when Pres Ford took over. I was one of the ones that believed Pres Ford was correct in pardoning Pres Nixon.

I am very wrong and very sorry. President Ford will be buried TOMORROW. This afternoon, there will be a private service, then public viewing for those in Michigan.

Let me just be quiet about the proceedings and watch them unfold...
