It was Columbia. Andreas Escobar, who scored an own goal in their loss to the USA in 1994, was shot dead back home in Medellin a week or two later.
that was my thought, too, mware. Sore loser? Some sports fans ARE nuts. On the other hand, it could have been a drive-by shooting, not that Williams was personally targetted.
I don't have a problem with a 24 year old going out with a date on New Year's Eve after midnight. In fact, it strikes me as perfectly normal. It's what I did, what my 20-something kids do. I don't see a lot of sense in judging that particular behavior. Getting shot and killed is another story.
My sincerest condolences to the family, friend, teammates and fans of WIlliams.
Probably more has to do with this poor guy forgot to leave the trash talk at the game. Cornerbacks are about the most brash young male men on earth. Talking smack to a fellow athlete isn't the same as talking smack to someone who is already invariably way resentful of your success.
He played well, and had outperformed nearly every other 2nd year CB in the league this year. It was a combination of Jay Culter's concussion and the remarkable 49ers that did Denver in. This is a team which beat Seattle twice and has been close in every loss since Week 5 as Alex Smith has improved and Gore has exploded.
I wondered the same thing. I suspect that someone lost a large bet and was not happy about it...
