And now for a regularly-scheduled reality check:

Starting salaries are meaningless since they don't reflect the future earning potential in the profession for someone who is really, really good. I know more than a few art majors who started below $30,000 a year (and some of them at zero a year)and are now at more than five or ten times that salary after a few years out in the world. But again, you have to be really, really good.

That entertainment is one of our major exports is shameful. It doesn't particularly benefit anyone and is easily replaced.

I can't believe you're pressing this. Do you want me to start posting salary data for engineers that get a master's degree? How about a Ph.D? I believe Mase has some information about how many CEO's are engineers.

Do you have anything to back up your assertion(s)?

I'm an electrical engineer.

Started as an engineering technician at a large company in Silicon Valley. After less than 4 years I was promoted to a senior design engineer there.

In my mid 20's (which was in the 1980's) I quit and became a consultant typically charging $65 an hour operating out of my apartment.

Then I started my own contract engineering business with an associate from the same "large company". Later we started manufacturing our own products. Our company designs and sells satellite communications equipment world wide.

I didn't go to school (no college at all).

I do very well for myself. I have more opportunities than I have time to pursue.

Those opportunities are open to all that want to pursue them - here or abroad.
