No, it was definately muslims. That is not the point. The idiotic comments on threads are simply annoying and not needed. There is more breaking news on this. The stampede to post such "brilliant" observations on threads such as these is an unavoidable characteristic of the forum where they appear. I liken it to thread penis-envy, and there's nothing one can do about it.

Frustratingly enough the BBC just reported that the Thai police are suspecting Thaksin supporters and ruling out Muslims. Like you and much of the local news, I think that it is most similar to the southern Islamists.
