The crossed swords are still there and we can't demolish them because they belong to the Iraqis. It's like their Arc-de-Triumph for the Iran-Iraq war. The 'cornucopia' nets at the base of the hands are filled with Iranian helmets. The helmets extend onto the ground in several rows and cross to the other side and into the other side's net of helmets. It's a big parade ground and the military equipment would roll over the rows of Iranian helmets when entering and exiting the review. The helmets in the ground are supported by concrete underneith so they don't crush. The arms are said to be modeled from Saddam's which when you think of it would put him underground, like he's reaching up from Hell. It's pretty macabre actually.

I'm just kinda surprised the Iraqis haven't gotten rid of them.
