I think it's important to distinguish between the signal sent and its motivaation from the signal received and the reaction to it. Just because I am attracted to some wimmins doesn't mean (I regret to say) that they are trying to attract the likes of moi.

Further, atheists are so much humbler AND smarter than us and we so much less perceptive than they that if they didn't tell us that they're atheists we'd be too stupid to notice. So they're doing it as a kindness.
