Actually, if you live in a high rise, a parachute is not a bad idea. It is preferable to jumping to the pavement and being splattered - which is what hundreds of people chose to do on 9-11. It was either that, or be burned to death.

A parachute is a horrible idea. The air currents between buildings are unpredictable, which is why you have so few base jumping attempts in NYC.
