Oh I am used to pits. You work in a shelter you see what horrible people do to them, mainly the drug dealers. They inbreed them for their own purposes or worse try their drugs out on them to see if they will be able to sell them. I hated going on pit calls . You usually see a cinder block and a inner tube tire hanging from a tree. Thats your first clue its going to be a problem. Pits get their bad name I think for inbreeding. I've know gentle ones and ones that would rip you to shreds. Same for Akita's and Doberman. People buy large dogs because they see them as cute little puppies. Most people do not do their homework before buying. Its sad and and its a shame because so many end up in the pound. I think Doberman got the same bad rap as pits for awhile. The small brain bs. In my area the police kill the pits when they do drug busts. Usually the shelters have a problem adopting them out unless they are small pups ...I quit awhile back so I am not sure if they even do adopt them out anymore. What most people don't realize is NO infant or small child can safely be left alone with a dog. I don't care what breed. You never know what a child will do to a dog when left alone. If the dog is being hurt it will bite. Now that I will get yelled at about. lol. The thing is if a dog bites a child in my opinion it needs to go down asap as it usually will bite again. All the vets I ever worked with will tell you that. I never had a pit but I got hell for raising dobies. I don't hate pits , I hate owners who let their dogs roam free and don't take proper care of them. I don't think I would personally own one as its too much hassle dealing with big dogs for me now. This is something I repeat, ad nauseum, when people haul out the: "GET RID OF YOUR DOG BEFORE SHE EATS YOUR UNBORN CHILD!" craziness. Thank you for being a voice of reason on this thread, Pandora.
