I'm more in the "I'll give him a chance but I don't really like him" camp.

I'm not thrilled with the guy either (who is?), but this has to be awkward for him too, stepping into a job that was held by a living legend like Rummy. I don't envy that.

That may very well be his worst quality. I know it's not his fault but, after Rummy, I just can't see anyone else as being a good SecDef. Rummy was the best. Gates has the misfortune of being his successor.
