i do know that quite a few jewish people could have left the country and the writing was on the wall but they didn't want to leave their money/ business'/etc...

not trying to justify this guys rantings but this does pose a question..

would you leave your homeland with your life and that of your families even if it meant going poor and starting over or would you risk it to maybe keep your money?

Are you so sure it was about money? Plenty of people stayed in NOLA and the surrounding areas even though they were warned that the storm was coming. I wouldn't say that they stayed behind because of greed.

There were probably several reasons they (European Jews) stayed behind. Elderly family members unable to travel. Do you just leave grandma behind to die? Not an easy decision. What about the pregnant mothers getting ready to deliver? Leave them behind? I think most of all, the people probably couldn't comprehend that level of barbarity and destruction until it was too late for them to escape.
