It is not uncommon for an individual to have the chromosomes for one sex but physiologically function as the opposite sex.
It is not uncommon for these individuals to be superior athletes.
While cases such as the one in this article are controversial because it the male chromosone functioning as a female, there is never any controversy over female chromosones functioning as a male.
One of the clues used in genetics class is that you often see superior male athletes who have only daughters, implying that they are carrying the XX chromosome and cannot have sons.
