A former co-worker just visited us and left a box of Christmas candy she had made. She has only one arm -- the other was amputated due to cancer. She will probably lose the other one shortly. She is a widow whose only daughter must work to survive. This writer needs to become familiar with real tragedy.

Because you saw a woman with one arm does not make you fully aware of the feelings and experiences of a woman with one parent, caused by her one parent's willfullness. Is there only room for concern in your heart for the victims of extreme tragedy, and none for the victims of chronic neglect?
