Somali militia orders Ethiopians out
MOGADISHU, Somalia, Dec. 16 (UPI) -- The militia that controls much of Somalia has given Ethiopian troops until Tuesday to withdraw peacefully or face all-out war.
But Ethiopia says its troops will not leave unless the Somali government explicitly rescinds its invitation allowing the troops in the country.
Somali lawmakers in the nation's capital Mogadishu say parliament did not "invite" the Ethiopian troops. They say instead, some top Somali officials unilaterally invited Ethiopia to deploy ground troops into the country without parliament approval, Somalia's independent Garowe Online news service reports.
Meanwhile, the parliament became fractured as its speaker Saturday broke ranks and signed a unilateral agreement with the controlling Somalia Islamic Courts militia promising to begin peace talks with the group -- an agreement the interim government says it will not honor, Eritrea Daily reports.
In Belgium, the European Union Saturday expressed its "deepest concern" about the deteriorating security situation in Somalia and the risk of an imminent war in the African country, China's Xinhua news service reports.
Good. I think we should be supplying them with air support as well.
Well, the EU washed their hands of that sticky wicket!
We may find out Tuesday, huh?
Ping.
the beauty of Somalia is that they could all kill each other, and we wouldn't even notice!
Or care.
Let's send 'em a Christmas present!!
Somalia is a sovereign nation and any foreign intervention is subject to immediate retaliation. The so-called islamist never invaded any foreign country and it is ridiculous for ethiopia which has thousands of troops in somalia to claim that the somalis are the aggressors.Ethiopia has never been able to defeat somalia with the help of the usa and the ussr in the past,What makes this time different? Nothing,Throughout history ethiopia has been on the losing side whenever it initiated any hostilities towards somalia.Ethiopians are not known for their military prowess,You could call them the french of africa, always giving up to the far superior somali military and guerilla style of fighting.
