A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Welcome to TGIF at the Finest!   We hope you've been having as much fun as we have with our essays and/or spotlight on various FReepers. From the beginning, we've been kicking back on Saturdays and Sundays and simply reviewing the features of the week; our weekend threads now start on Friday and continue through Sunday. If you missed seeing any of this week's threads and want to say hello there now, just click on the link for that particular day. If you'd like to drop in and out of this thread today through Sunday, please feel free to do that also. One of us will try to be around to see the welcome mat is still out, put the coffee pot on, and maybe even bring fresh flowers for the table. : )

"Wear Red" Friday
You will soon see a lot of people wearing Red on Fridays. Here's why..... The Americans, who support our troops, are the silent majority. We are not "organized" to reflect who we are, or to reflect what our opinions are. Many Americans, like yourself, and all their friends, simply want to recognize that Americans support our troops. Our idea of showing our solidarity and support for our troops is starting Friday and continuing on each and every Friday, until this is over, that every red-blooded American who supports our young men and women, WEAR SOMETHING RED.

Word of mouth, press, TV -- let's see if we can make the United States, on any given Friday, a sea of red much like a home football game at a University. If every one of our memberships share this with other acquaintances, fellow workers, friends, and neighbors, I guarantee that it will not be long before the USA will be covered in RED - and make our troops know there are many people thinking of their well-being. You will feel better all day Friday when you wear Red! So let's get the word out and lead by example; wear RED on Fridays.

SUPPORT OUR TROOPS! WE LIVE IN THE LAND OF THE FREE, BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE. FOR US, THEIR BLOOD RUNS RED!! GOD BLESS AMERICA.
I received this in my email June 10th, the author is unknown.
I am wearing red today and every Friday ~ Billie

Cute cat graphic hanging by a thread I would say.
That's about right with Christmas being so close and the lights on our tree out and we can't find out why and trouble ordering one of the gifts....:)

Oh well I am sure we will still have a very Merry Christmas in spite of it all.

We had a wonderful time Friday evening as we celebrated Hanukah - lots of singing, dancing, prayers and of course - FOOD! The Temple was really rocking!

Today begins a two week Interfaith Shelter at our synagogue. A group of homeless will be sheltered at our school. Various churches and synagogues in our area share this responsibility during the year. We specifically do it at this time of year so that the Churches can be free of the responsibility for Christmas and New Year's.

These people are drug free and actively looking for work. They will be sheltered and fed three times a day. Included is a Christmas Dinner and Christmas gifts. Temple members volunteer to spend the night with them, prepare the meals (a bagged lunch if they need it) and supply any necessities.

I really like this idea - not only helping these people, but the fact that we share the responsibility with our Christian brothers and sisters. This is the true meaning of this time of year for all of us. Our common heritage of caring. Stuff like this doesn't make the news but it should.

However, it doesn't fit the liberal news agenda since it isn't done by government.

You are welcome, dear Purple. (((HUGS)))

I have been using the public bus system for many, long years... locally, it's pretty good and convenient.

Anyway, one year, I printed out several copies of the poem, rolled each one up like a diploma and tied colorful Christmas ribbon around it.

Then, pre-Christmas, I handed one to each one of my regular bus drivers, and/or whatever one happened to be driving until I ran out of poems.

I also like to give the drivers cookies and candy at Christmas... which reminds me! I missed the garbagemen last year and must get them something this year. We also have an incredible mailman! Something for him, too...

Chachi is ADORABLE ... !!! Your tree looks elegantly gorgeous too!!

Sidenote: My neighbors from Japan have put up their first Christmas tree this year! Their little boy, whom I have watched grow from birth, will be 3 years old on Friday. (He's my pal.)

He will have Christmas memories, as well as the traditional Japanese New Year celebrations!!

Yes, Meg! That is the true Christmas rose there! So delicate looking, yet apparently hardy enough to bloom in the cold.

All the lovely images you post really make a difference, like a balm to the soul, an uplift to the spirit.

Thanks for all you do. Hope I haven't missed you before you go off on holiday.

I do not need to report for jury service tomorrow, but to call in day by day ...

LOL. Okay, well.....we are very visually oriented here. We want pictures. ;-)

Thanks for the comments on our Chachi. We think he is pretty adorable too (and so does he!). LOL.

What an exciting Christmas this will be for your little buddy! Yes, very special memories in the making for him, and mom and dad too.

Have You ever had a pumpkin cheesecake?

Yes, they're delicious! I confess to BUYING them at Sam's Club, though, instead of making them from scratch. Thanksgiving & Christmas are the only times I usually see them in the store.

I do make a pumpkin layer cake with cream cheese frosting every year though!

A Christmas gift to you, who so generously gives to all of us on a daily basis.

Very sad to read Mojo's latest update on Tonk. I wish him God Speed and have his family in my prayers and my thoughts. It has to be so very hard on them.

You are more than welcome, Meg. You bring us much beauty every day. I am having fun making the ornaments, especially now that most everything's done for Christmas here except for the last minute sprucing up and then of course any cooking I couldn't do ahead and put in freezer, doing the table and wrapping individual goodie gifts.

God will take care of you still to the end;
O what a Father, Redeemer, and Friend!
Jesus will answer whenever you call;
He will take care of you: trust Him for all!

Thank you, Rus. Trust Him for All.
