It's all about the control of the committees. After the power-sharing debacle, I would hope that the GOP doesn't fall for that again. A 50-50 Senate puts our side in control.
That can happen only if Johnson dies before the session begins.
He wouldn't resign or be expelled until after the organization votes.
Even if he is unable to attend and vote he is still one of the Senators which makes it a 50-49 vote in the Dems' favor.
