They went up there on their own let them figure out how to get down.

I have no idea what level of climbing prowess they're on - but that is one ambitious "quick climb", especially in winter.

I hope they're OK and I hope they pay the bill.

You CAN do a "quick climb" of Mt. Hood.....but NOT this time of year. Mt. Hood is the mountain where a bunch of kids died in about 1984/5.....it can be wicked, even as it can sometimes be easy. These guys were stupid.

According to last nights news, emergency locators for mountain rescue are required to be carried to climb Mt Hood.
$5 rental. The climbers were from out of state so it was deduced that they may have been unaware of the requirement.

A special prayer for the brave men who would try for a rescue.

This is nuts, we have been having an unending stretch of nasty weather since the beginning of November. I'm not a big fan of gov't regulation, but there needs to be some sort of sanity injected into this type of risk taking, make the climbers apply for a permit, the day before such a trek. There is no reason to cause the inevitable rescuers to be subjected to the rigors, expense and risk of the search.

Unless these guys have been injured or worse, I have faith that they'll know how to survive the storm until better conditions prevail. Hopefully they brought one or more stoves to melt snow for water, in which case they can stay put in that snow cave for a very long time. It's not all that uncommon to find refuge in a snow cave for days and even weeks.

Two years ago, my son and I went through Basic Hunter Safety Course. Part of it was survival and told of idiots who walked into situations that they should have avoided without any survival gear.

This incident is another example of the gene pool being cleansed.

Parks need to issue all visitors (including Al Gore) GPS systems so they can be tracked in the event that they get themselves lost.

It is reckless to expect others to risk their lives over irresponsible behavior. Climb if you must but take along ALL the appropriate gear (including communications).

I pray they find them today, because another storm is headed our way, but it is going to be even more fierce. The storm reportedly will cover British Columbia, Washington and Oregon.

I really have to wonder why anyone would choose this time of year to climb a mountain. It is dangerous any time of year, but especially now.

They didn't carry sleeping bags with them? Stupid. A Wiggy's could have saved their life.
