Knowledge of germs? I don't think so. Knowledge of basic practical sanitation? Probably.

A knowledge of microrganisms as the cuse of disease leads to a different kind of sanitation than just a declaration of clean and unclean. Sanitation based on biological knowledge is much more specific in its recommendations.
