Creation museum pushes 'true history' (About New Ohio Creationist Museum)
BBC ^

A new high-tech temple to fundamentalist Christianity is due to open in heart of Middle America next May, aiming to provide the grandest riposte yet to Darwinian evolutionary theory.

Staff and supporters of the Answers in Genesis organisation call it the Creation Museum.

But secular scientists would take issue with the use of either word to describe the almost completed building that stands just a few miles west of Cincinnati, on the borders of Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana.

Wherever you stand on the debate, it is impossible not to be impressed by the effort that has gone into constructing the $27m (£13.5m) museum, which hopes to attract hundreds of thousands of visitors each year.

"We have a planetarium to our left, and a virtually-finished bookstore.

"The museum is right under that archway there," said Mark Looy, vice president for ministry relations, standing in the foyer next to an animatronics dinosaur that is munching on a synthetic plant.

Playful dinosaurs

The museum's aim is to bring Genesis - the first book of the Bible - to life for all ages, and promote the belief that the Earth is less than 10,000 years old.

"First of all, you need to understand the process of fossilization and understand the extreme conditions it takes to fossilize an animal. If a carcass isn't fully eaten and scattered across a large area it then has to be in the right place at the right time for fossilization to take place. I'm sure there are an untold number of species we'll never know about."

Perhaps, but we are talking "billions" of years and thousands upon thousands of "random" mutations to arrive at where things are today, if they evolved that way. For the preserved record to show so few if any examples of evolution, I find very suspect. Maybe examples are waiting to be discovered, I don't know. I agree above that it would not be realistic to have an example of every single thing preserved in the fossil record.

Yeah, like evolution actually *predicted* that the evidence would be missing!

Can't beat a theory like that...literally.

Not with your eyes squeezed shut and your fingers in your ears.

Not to pick too fine a point, but it's located in Kentucky, a few miles from the Ohio line.

Nah, that was Gould's reason for proposing Puntuated Equilibrium.

He recognized that the fossil 'record' wasn't.

God is able to do anything, including creating diamonds. He created fish on the spot when Simon Peter couldn't find any because there weren't any.

God is in the mix. Can you deal with that?

You forgot the "LA, LA, LA, LA, I can't hear you" part.

I agree. Evolutionists ignore The Bible as a matter of policy.

We’ve been seeing tyrannosaur fossils for many years but have only recently found examples in fine shale deposits of China showing feathered examples. Again, conditions were right to show such an adaptation.

"I personally don't put much stock in evolution because if all there is was created by random mutation, the fossil record should be crammed full of things that did not make it, and it isn't."

Uh? It is. "not making it" is called going extinct.

I personally don't have a problem with adaptation. In fact, I don't think it can be denied. I have a problem with the species jumping idea. Maybe these guys helped! :)

At least your honest in admitting that the evidence is against you.

Evidence??? We don't need no stinking evidence.

All you've done is moved the species jumping problem to another planet.

"Uh? It is. "not making it" is called going extinct."

You don't understand the point I am trying to make. What the fossil record should contain are examples of creatures that were not viable. If evolution happend by random mutation, there should be things like 5 armed monkeys or something. Things that did not go extinct per se, but things not viable to survive to begin with because some mutations would have to have been fatal. The record, from what I have been able to read, does not contain such examples. That it contains now extinct creatures, yes, that is not a point of contention.

You do see fossils of animals with deformities (including humans and their ancestors). You see them alive and running around today, why would think that they didn't exist in the fossil record?

Anything that was truly not viable would be limited to a single isolated individual and hence you would expect to find them fairly rarely, but they do exist.

the fossil record should be crammed full of things that did not make it, and it isn't. That's my two cents.

Almost everything in the fossil record didn't make it. Most fossils are examples of exctinct organisms.

I agree. Evolutionists ignore The Bible as a matter of policy.

Who's ignoring the Bible?

Wonderful book. Good framework for living a moral life. Indespensible spiritual guide.

Why anyone would think that makes it a science text, though, is beyond me, though. I don't look to a physics textbook for moral guidance.
