Hanukkah, is the celebration of a victory, in a war...in other words it is the celebration of the defeat, of a enemy
And Jesus Christ is the Celebration of defeat of a enemy named *Death*
There are some very distinct similarities.
"Hanukkah, is the celebration of a victory, in a war...in other words it is the celebration of the defeat, of a enemy....NOW, Christmas is the celebration of the birth a baby, who, would become a Saviour....please tell me how one can compare the two occasions...how do we celebrate in a "joyous" frame of mind for two very different situations...."
Good point.
Hanukkah happened and the Maccabees restored the temple.
Jesus happened and the Temple was destroyed.
An argument that many Christians use is that the temple was no longer necessary... but if that's the case, was it ever necessary? If not, why did God command Solomon to build it in the first place as a symbol for Israel to turn their hearts towards, and away from the pagan ways of their neighbors?
Your response to me made no sense. I posted that Hanukkah is not considered a holy day so there should not be a comparison to Christmas. You are asking me why I'm comparing. I've never understood how people seem to put them side-by-side; the only reason I can think of is they are close together on the calendar and that's the only comparison I see.
