Back in 1990, Baker convinced Syria to join the Gulf War coalition against Saddam Hussein. Now, he wants this George Bush to talk to Syria ... and Iran, too.
"It has to be hard-nosed, it has to be determined," Baker said in a television interview in October. "You don't give away anything, but in my view, it's not appeasement to talk to your enemies."
But this president may not be in much of a hurry to accept Baker's ideas about that or much else. Asked if Baker would help implement the report, a spokesman for Mr. Bush said, "Jim Baker can go back to his day job."

Its also a good substitute for toilet paper (though copies of the Koran are far superior in this regard).
Anyone but McCain. I would seriously consider voting for hilary first.
Baker makes Benedict Arnold look like a patriot.
I'm glad you brought that up SJ. Now I only hope she runs for POTUS....NOT! Although she would get a lot of support here on FR. Not me though.
FMCDH(BITS)
...Wipe with it.
Disagree. Just because the ISG pulled this out of their butts doesn't mean it is fit for mine. I'm not even sure I'd let my dog use it (if I had a dog).
bttt
Baker is an old hand, with much experience and knowledge, so it's not naivete on his part. It's something much worse.
I just saw a clip of Baker on Fox News where he pompously declared that the admin must implement all the recommendations and not just some. What an arrogant horse's posterior.
Good idea. It's full of e-coli. So is Baker.
A little context is in order.
Without Baker, GWB would never have been President, because he would not have survived the 2000 recount. Baker led and oversaw the totality of getting Bush successfully through the courts and the electoral college.
Disdain for McCain? Yes, I coined it here, BUT he has been unrelenting in supporting the WOT and denouncing the bipartisan surrender. Of all the presidential aspirants, I believe McCain would be the most aggressive in prosecuting the global WOT.
Politically, McCain is damned smart to get to the right of Bush on prosecuting the war in Iraq and beyond.
Good answer *L*
I'm not a big McCain fan, but to give him his due, he's been very solid on the wot. In fact I'm willing to bet that the country would rally behind him more than they mostly don't for Dubya. Defeating the I-F's is the most important challenge our country faces in the decades ahead. All other issues are secondary. McCain, for all his faults, seems willing to accept that challenge.
Thanks. The tim russert ( no Junita Brodrick question show)
LOL..I have noticed the two times that Pres. Bush has spoken about this ISG report, he is thankful but dismissive, IMHO>
MTP? Usually Meet The Press.
Uh, Johnnie, McCain has been publicly bashing this report. He's saying just about everything we are about it.
