As "Plunkitt of Tammany Hall" observed 100 years ago: "A reformer can't last in politics. He can make a show for a while, but he always comes down like a rocket."

Well, then, that's another reason we need term limits -- it replenishes the supply of fresh reformers.

I support term limits -- if they applied equally to all members. I don't like state by state term limits, because the reps from the more conservativve and reform-minded states would be the only ones affected. The good guys would be at a disadvantage. I also don't like self-imposed term limits, for the same reason.

It's a moot issue for now anyway. The Supreme Court, about 10 years ago, said mandatory term limits for Congress are unconstitutional. They aren't, but that's what SCOTUS said.
