ATLANTA - The Colombia-born wife of a Georgia state senator, who had been in hiding as federal immigration officials try to deport her, turned herself in Tuesday to face an order to remove her from the country.
Sascha Herrera, 28, arrived at the Martin Luther King Federal Building shortly before 8 a.m. to face authorities in the Immigration and Customs Enforcement field office.
"I'm very nervous right now," Herrera said. "I think I'm doing the right thing. I hope my name and my husband's name is clean."
Her husband, State Sen. Curt Thompson said, "The main goal is to make sure after the interview that they will allow Sascha to go home."
She had been in hiding since Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers arrived at her home Nov. 28 with an order to remove her from the U.S. She was not home at the time.
Her attorney, Charles Kuck, claims she was duped by a man handling her immigration requests and that she never received the immigration notices that triggered her deportation order.
Kuck filed a petition Monday to stay her deportation order and reopen her case, arguing that a man filed an asylum petition on her behalf without her knowledge and before her husband sponsored her green card application based on their April marriage.

So why is law enforcement involved?
She is free to leave the country. Jews under Hitler were not. For you to imply these two cases are comparable is demented or you are trying to make light of the Holocaust.
Looks like the same woman to me. Her eyes, teeth and hairline look the same. Same height and weight.
Pictures with bad lighting and from somewhat below the face are never flattering.
I will.
I will marry our Senators.
gotta go....carry on the good fight for me, would you?
Sure, they can do both, but it looks like Metmom's question was, why don't they?
CA....
"This is the second incident like this where they've gone after someone's wife.
Why don't they go after the rest of the illegals? The drug dealers, the gang members, the cop-killers, the rapists...."
The wives are a lot easier to find and most of the time they don't get a chance to hide.
"You have the ability to know which one's hate and which one's love America. I'm impressed!"
I've known several people that came here illegally, and some are in my family. They have now gone through the process and have become citizens. From knowing them intimatelly, I can tell you that I KNOW that they love this country.
At the same time, I knew a guy that came here legally from SYRIA. The guy couldn't keep his mouth shut about how they were going to kill the filthy american pigs and make everybody bow down to Allah. Did ICE show up to deport him? Nope... he's allowed to legally screw us.
Oh, brother. Because of the notario! Read the article(s).
If she and he have a legitmate beef with how the situation stands, as YOU stated, then they have nothing to worry about. The only problem I see is that she avoided the situation by hiding out and not facing her accusers. I'm sure they'll be able to find a sympathetic judge that will let her stay.
One thing is certain though. All the whining and bitching on this forum will have no bearing on what happens.
The notario then suggested an asylum application, which Herrera signed, but she got a "bad vibe" from the man and decided not to proceed, Kuck said.
She does, however, acknowledge that she signed the asylum application. I have a hard time buying this 'rogue notario' scenario. It sounds an awful lot like lawyerese for 'the dog ate my homework.' Very unlikely but almost impossible to disprove. I would be more inclined to believe that she paid a notario to file the papers, but the filing never occurred,(remember notarios do not do this for free) and she was ripped off. However, she cannot use that as a reason to get a 'do over' because the papers were filed (with her signature, no less). As for the address being false, that seems to be common practice in the crimmigrant community. Never give an address where they can locate you in case you are denied (very similar to the way democrats register 'new' voters.)

Isn't that your screen name on democratic underground? It really sounds like you are missing your dinner conversations with Gwyneth now that she is in Britain.
Here's a senator who could use a real husband.
The judge already ruled this morning, and ICE said they wouldn't appeal. And I agree -- ideally, she should have been home when the ICE agents showed up, but at least she turned herself in.
All the whining and bitching on this forum will have no bearing on what happens.
That should probably be in the header of every page here at FR.
She provides mass transportation with complementary hot beverages?
I wrote the woman's attorney, and he sent me a very respectful reply.
In short, he claims that, had she NOT been the wife of a Senator, she would not have received the scrutiny, nor her case given the special attention it has, therefore she would have been targeted for deportation.
Ok, she can stay!
Phew. At least Thompson (D) is not an old bulldog.
When I see "28", "immigrant", and "married a senator", I think "old dog bagging a PYT".
