Congress will approve an immigration bill that will grant citizenship rights to most of the 12 million to 20 million illegal aliens in the U.S. after Democrats take control next month, predict both sides on Capitol Hill. While Republicans have been largely splintered on the issue of immigration reform, Democrats have been fairly unified behind the principle that the illegals currently in the country should get citizenship rights without having to first leave the country.

The guest worker proposal was a lot more limited, but R's wouldn't get behind it. Please see the folly of that.
"If conservatives had realized that his guest worker program would have ...............bla, bla, bla"
It would have done nothing to stop the inflow of illegals.
All I can figure is these people are too young to remember when the dems were last in charge of congress or 1991 when a lot of "us" jumped ship.

This goes beyond amnesty. Amnesty doesn't involve automatic citizenship. You're now in inane response mode.
President will sign it into law as soon as it is passed. Thanks President for destroying our America.
"President Bush will be the biggest cheerleader out there for this."
What do you mean, WILL BE? We wouldn't be in this situation if it hadn't been for him. Just couldn't shut up about shamnesty,,,, wouldn't protect this country by securing our borders, without shamnesty,,,,, divided the party over shamnesty, lost majority because of shamnesty.
If, IN SPITE OF WHAT BUSH WANTS, the American people, every single one of us, not just the minutemen, not just the AFR, and not just the small grassroots groups, but ALL of us, if we don't organize and take to the streets as the illegals and their supporters did to make OUR demands heard, we deserve what we get.
Does anyone know of any plans to do this? Dang it, if their voices can be heard and resulted in S2611, why can't ours?
That is not the subject. It would not have paid off the national debt, either.
You may be right about that. Which is exactly why allowing the Dems to take control of the house will now have the exact opposite result of what the idiots who wanted to "teach the GOP a lesson" wanted. They can't differentiate between Bush and congress. The bill was bottled up in the house before.
What I remember is the hope I had when the Republicans came into power in 94. Bitter memory now.
Yea well .. then the dems will be issuing them all one of these
Well, it was a nice experiment in individualism and small-government while it lasted. We proved that it works and is a path to success. Maybe some other nation will give it a try someday. Until then, maybe my future generations should find a nice Carribean Island somewhere.

I think we will see it sooner than we think
I wonder why they even bother? Just do nothing, instead of making it worse. Once they get legal, they will just demand what most Americans get for pay. They aren't going to work for illegal pay anymore. You know, they do jobs we won't. What makes anyone think when they are legal they will?
But who will lead us?

And the sad part about it all is that other than Dick Cheney, I don't see any Republican on the horizon to vote for POTUS in 2008. And he has repeatedly said "I'm not running."
Well hell, let's put up a BIG Welcome sign on the border too!
Never mind, I guess this bill will do just that......
It looks like Sam Brownback is gearing up for a run. I think there's a good chance he could get it since McCain/Giuliani would split the moderate-liberal vote. But he'll need $.
