Congress will approve an immigration bill that will grant citizenship rights to most of the 12 million to 20 million illegal aliens in the U.S. after Democrats take control next month, predict both sides on Capitol Hill. While Republicans have been largely splintered on the issue of immigration reform, Democrats have been fairly unified behind the principle that the illegals currently in the country should get citizenship rights without having to first leave the country.

Oh, that will be an interesting thread on FR, won't it? Just try telling that to some of the uber conseravtives around here. Their heads will explode when they find out it applies to them, too. Most folks I have seen on my side of the issue are willing to have modest infringements such as those I have mentioned to combat illegal immigration, just as during wartime, the rules are different as well, for obvious reasons.

I guess you've been at the same job for 20 years, Howlin. I've had to show proof of citizenship or legal residence since 1986 I'll abmit I've been out of the work force for a few years .. but I never had to that

I've never had to show my passport OR my birth certificate to do any of that. I guess you've been at the same job for 20 years, Howlin. I've had to show proof of citizenship or legal residence since 1986.
I applied for a part time job at a banking center, not anywhere near the money and had to show proof of citizenship, took my passport and they ran a check of my SSA number.

It doesn't matter whether this passes or not; we're going to have massive tax increases any way.

True the net number is what counts. Statistically, however, Bush gets a little slack from his dereliction because the population of the USA today is nearing twice that of 1956 America, meaning the illegal migration increase he's tolerated/encouraged is less dramatic as a percentage of population.

I don't know what kind of work you do, but I'd venture I've had more jobs than you have and I have yet to have to show proof of citizenship OR legal residence. Heck, I had two new contract jobs and one new permanent job in the last four years. Had to show my passport for all three (a DL and birth certificate would have sufficed, as well as several other IDs such as military ID).

I can't tell from one minute to the next what we're suppose to be for or against in order to qualify as a "real, true" conservative I think we need a chart

Please post the numbers that support your claim that conservatives stayed home in significant numbers and cost us the election. Ignore that large numbers of swing voters were turned off corruption and Iraq.

"....how about you?"
I'm more of a Constitutionalist. I know that's becoming less popular here but heck....I think when the POTUS takes the oath he might want to read what he's swearing too, you know... "protecting the Republic, bla, bla, bla.."
I think securing the border between legal crossings might be pretty high on the list....but that's just me...

Here comes to new democrat base! Rather here comes the beginning of a civil war. Not only does the government allow foreigners to illegally take away needed jobs from US citizens but reward them by making them legal. I don't think the this government has a clue to what is going on at the blue collar level in this country. This influx of Mexicans is overloading the housing, fishing, medical, insurance, traffic etc. on top of screwing up wages for legal citizens. If this economy slows we are going to see some really pissed off Americans.
