Do we really need to import disease into America? We're already medicating half of Mexico, who has brought drug-resistant TB to us. If these HIV-infected visitors don't go home, will it be our responsibility to medicate them too?

Because of the rule, organizers of the biannual International AIDS Conferences have not held a gathering in the United States since 1990 And the problem is?

for God'sake, look at the source and you know you have less than 1/2 the story.......Freepers are sometimes so reactionarily predictable.

Nice move Bush -- just what we need. Why doesn't he just "ease restrictions" on Islamofascists hell-bent on killing Americans?? It would be equally popular. The continued pandering to the far left just keeps getting better.

Let's all pile on Bush now. Forget facts, forget the source, just read the headline, let's just bash, bash, bash!
To: janetgreen
Bush declared that "we have a duty to do something about this epidemic.'' He cited his $15 billion, five-year overseas AIDS relief effort, which Dybul -- an AIDS physician who once treated patients in San Francisco -- now runs.
Who gives more money for AIDS relief than the US?
They need help yes but to allow unfettered access to a group that is already defined as "epidemic" is simply suicidal.

Why don't we just air-drop visas and plane tickets to "deserving groups" all over the world? Or better yet, shut down the customs department completely and offer a rebate on all plane tickets to all newly arriving non-Americans. That ought to give a much-needed immigration boost to all kinds of deserving groups.

Activists, taken by surprise by the announcement, generally praised Bush's decision but said all restrictions on immigrants with HIV should be lifted. "It's a step away from a terribly discriminatory and inappropriate policy, but it doesn't go far enough,'' said Leonard Rubenstein, executive director of Physicians for Human Rights, in Washington. "This is a treatable disease. If you want to remove stigma from AIDS, you have to go the whole distance, and eliminate all restrictions on entry to the United States for people with HIV.''
It's never enough is it? No matter how much we give or allow its never enough for the rest of this world.
It's time we learned we can't buy the worlds love and just started doing whats right to preserve this country first, then help the rest.
As for removing stigmas's......Sometimes a stigma is a good and healthy thing.

This is ridiculous if the article is true.
Even Clinton was not that stupid to ease that rule!
Maybe Libs are right after all when they ridicule Bush intelligence.

It's true. From http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2006/12/20061201-2.html
The President Is Dedicated To Ending Discrimination Against People Living With HIV/AIDS
The President Will Direct The Secretary Of State To Request And The Secretary Of Homeland Security To Initiate A Rulemaking That Would Propose A Categorical Waiver For HIV-Positive People Seeking To Enter The United States On Short-Term Visas. The President considers the participation of people living with HIV/AIDS a critical element in the global HIV/AIDS response. A 1993 law prohibits HIV-positive people from receiving visas to visit the United States without a waiver. A categorical waiver would enable HIV-positive people to enter the United States for short visits through a streamlined process.

Well, a little Aids will help balance out all the tuberculosis coming across the border and it is far more PC.
To: janetgreen
Lovely!
What's going on with BUSH?
Keep em out!
Seal up the borders.
Stop illegals and terrorists.
Don't welcome AIDS, which typically promiscuous MAELS have with open arms.
