Instead of $141k being confiscated by the Social Insecurity administration, if I had put that into a 401k with a reasonable employer match, it'd be worth over $1m today.
Regardless, ever since the 401ks came about in the early 1970s, I always put the max into it. For about 10 years I put in twice the amount. That grace period came in handy to contribute last year's allowable contribution, which I had already made during the year.

Yes, those mean, evil, capitalist 401(k) providers are ripping you off blind; but the kind, compassionate government is assuring that you get everything you've got coming to you with Social Security...
