The Big 10 already has 11 teams so taking in only one team would make it a 12-team conference.

As exciting as conference championship games are, I think they are actually a step backward from a college football playoff. When one of the main arguments against a playoff is that it would require schools to play too many games, adding a 12th regular season game and then adding a championship game on top of that - which often is a rematch of a regular season game - sort of bolsters that argument.

If there had been a serious attempt at a playoff system when everyone was playing 11 games no conference championships the argument against the playoffs wouldn't seem to hold water.

Exactly. If everyone in Division 1A played 11 games, they could easily participate in a 16-team playoff and only 2 teams would play as many as 15 games.

But now that there are 12 regular season games, add in a conference championship game, then a playoff system does seem to push the season out a bit too long.

But now that these conference championship games have been around for a few years, I don't think they'll go away. Right from the beginning when the SEC and Big 12 had their championship games, I felt it was the schools' way of avoiding a playoff.

Trailer for We Are Marshal.

One of my elementary teacher's son played on that team. He was second string and did not travel on that away game.
