Yes. Islam started as a variant of the Christian Arian heresy, which held Christ to be a great human -- period. Then all of the ideas of Mohamed were added.
However it is too bad that the headline used (Jesus Not Son Of God), did not appear in the article, nor any synonymous paraphrase of it.

That was my doing and that's what I got out of this sentence..
